UP-Tuks restored hope to their fans when they claimed a 2-1 victory over Chippa United at Tuks Stadium on Saturday 13 February. The first half of the match saw no change in score as both sides chose to play cautiously rather than trying to force attempts for any goals. UP came the closest to opening the scoreboard when Jerry Nkoana’s free kick found Lawrence Ntsweng. Ntsweng responded with a header that had fans on their feet after hitting the post.

UP came out flying in the second half and took advantage of a miscommunication between Chippa’s goalkeeper and center back that allowed Botshwelo Mfulwane to put a header into the back of the net. UP were hopeful when Tebogo Galane attempted a goal that went around the goalkeeper, but were disappointed to see the shot hit the side netting. It was Chippa’s turn to take advantage of a defensive error when Sherwin Bailey scored the equaliser for the visitors. In the 78th minute Siphamandla Dhlamini restored the hosts to a lead.

The win brought some joy to what has been an otherwise disappointing season for the title holders as they currently sit sixthon the log with 19 points, 11 points behind the leading Mamelodi Sundowns, who missed their chance of securing the title as they slumped to a 2-1 loss to the Free State Stars.
