A second-year education student, Lindo Thwala, sustained fatal injuries after jumping out of a tenth floor window of the University of Pretoria’s Groenkloof residence Inca on Thursday 6 December.

The details of the event are unclear as it is still being investigated by the South African Police Services. According to fellow students she was going to be picked up by her parents for the December break that Sunday.

Thwala’s fellow students said that she was always helpful and friendly to everyone. Inca Primaria Esmarél Pienaar explained how sorely she will be missed. “From House Inca’s side we are very sad to have lost one of our own. Lindo was a beautiful and loving girl. Everybody knew her and she will be missed dearly, but we know that God will also guide us through this difficult time,” Pienaar said.

The university sends its sincere condolences to the Thwala family and urges all students to make use of the free and confidential support service offered by the student affairs office if they are faced with any emotional difficulties. Students can also contact the 24 hour toll free crisis number in the case of an emergency on 0800 00 6428.
